VET (Vocation Education and Training)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is available at all 5 Catholic secondary schools. It can be delivered by trained teachers at the school or by an external provider such as TAFE.

Students can undertake Stage 5 VET which is normally at Certificate I level or Stage 6 VET which is usually at Certificate II or III level. All VET undertaken is nationally accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority. Qualifications are nationally recognised.

All VET undertaken whilst at school allows students to ‘double dip’; it counts at the school level towards the the HSC and an ATAR, as well as counting towards a trade qualification. In fact students can begin an apprenticeship or a traineeship whilst completing their HSC. Upon leaving school they usually move into the second year of their apprenticeship.

The provision of VET allows a very important option for students who will not complete a university degree, as it enables them to experience hands-on, competency-based learning.
