Living Well, Learning Well

Armidale Catholic Schools is dedicated to upholding the values and practices that create safe learning environments for all students.

Living Well, Learning Well – A Student Support Framework for the Diocese of Armidale is a framework that outlines our approach to student support. This framework outlines the research and evidence that underpins the school and system approach to the support of student wellbeing, learning, connection to school, behaviour, and similar domains. Research shows that these domains are interrelated elements in the lives of young people in the complex community that is the contemporary school.

The goal of Living Well, Learning Well and related policies is to ensure contemporary research underpins the practices of Armidale Catholic Schools. Living Well, Learning Well is informed by in depth research on a wide range of topics including pedagogy, inclusion, behaviour support, student voice, participation and connection to school, child and adolescent psychology, student wellbeing, and staff efficacy. This research is reflected in the language, policy, practice, and protocols of the Armidale Catholic Schools system.

Counselling

One of the many ways that Armidale Catholic Schools supports the wellbeing of our young people through the provision of school counselling services. Armidale Catholic Schools has partnered with Centacare New England North West to provide qualified, caring counsellors who support young people in each of our schools across the school year. All students have access to this free and confidential counselling service individually and/or in small groups.

Our counsellors are highly valued members of student care teams, and work as an integral part of each school’s staff. Counsellors work closely with principals to develop and deliver high-quality, effective staff development sessions which enable educators to better support the wellbeing needs of our young people both in the classroom and on the playground.

Family members of our young people are also welcome to access this free and confidential service. In the event of a critical incident, Centacare deploys additional counsellors to support the affected school community.
