St Mary’s College Gunnedah student, Jedd Mansfield has been announced as a finalist in the 2024 NSW Training
Awards for the North West Region. He is nominated in the School Based Apprentice/ Trainee of the Year category.
Jedd is a school based trainee with Hunter New England Health completing a Certificate III in Health Services
Assistance. He has been supported at a school and system level by the school VET Coordinator, Vicki Isbester and
Armidale Catholic Schools Office, Lilly Moar (Subject Matter Expert- Student Pathways).
Jedd has had a positive experience being trained by TAFE NSW “I love the connections that I have built with patients and staff at Gunnedah Hospital. It is the perfect place to learn as the nurses have taken the time to teach me and focus on my learning. My advice for future trainees is to take one step at a time, focus on one task at a time and before you know it, everything will be complete.”
Armidale Catholic Schools have approximately 70 students (Year 12) studying either school based or eVET courses
for 2024. This includes attainment of Certificate III and II in pathways such as Business Services, Construction,
Hospitality, Primary Industries, Aeroskills, Automotive: Mechanical Technology, Human Services: Nursing, Financial Services, Retail, Information and Digital Technology, Fitness, Animal Studies and Early Childhood Education and Care.
Director of Armidale Catholic Schools, Regina Menz said; “Congratulations to Jedd on this achievement. Armidale
Catholic Schools is committed to ensuring our young people realise a hope-filled future. Part of this vision is our support for pathways for all students. We are proud of our growing offerings in the VET and Schools based traineeships and apprenticeships. I wish Jedd all the best at the awards ceremony. Congratulations to the staff who have supported Jedd and all our students.”
A huge congratulations to Jedd for this recognition. This builds on the success of McCarthy Catholic College
Tamworth student, Molly Smith who was the runner up of the Australian School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the
Year award in 2023. Molly successfully completed a Certificate III in Human Services and undertook her traineeship
in nursing at Hunter New England Health. This years regional finalists will be announced on the 14th June in
